This week, Year 5 were lucky enough to take part in a really thoughtful and inspiring assembly led by Mind, where we focused on mindfulness and how looking after our wellbeing helps us feel happier, calmer and more confident.

During the assembly, we learned that mindfulness is about paying attention to the present moment – noticing how we feel, what we are thinking, and what is happening around us without rushing or worrying. The children were brilliant at listening, reflecting and sharing their ideas.

Mind also introduced us to the Five Ways to Wellbeing, which give us simple but powerful ways to take care of our mental health every day:

  • Connect – spending time with friends, family and others helps us feel supported and valued
  • Be Active – moving our bodies, whether through sport, play or walks, boosts our mood
  • Take Notice – noticing the world around us helps us feel calm and grounded
  • Keep Learning – trying new things and building skills gives us confidence
  • Give – helping others helps us feel good too.

The children made some fantastic links between these ideas and their own lives, from enjoying time with friends to feeling proud when learning something new.

We are especially excited because, after half term, we will be taking part in a block of sessions with Mind, focusing on mindfulness and resilience. These sessions will help the children learn strategies to manage worries, cope with challenges and understand their emotions better – skills that are so important both in school and beyond.

We are incredibly grateful to Mind for working with our school and supporting the wellbeing of our children. Year 5 are really looking forward to continuing these sessions and developing their understanding of how to look after both their minds and their bodies.

A wonderful step towards building resilience, confidence and kindness in our school community.
